kintbury jon
Afternoon all, Via the forum, i've acquired a nice rake of Replica Mark 1's in the Intercity Charter livery with white rooves. The rake consists of 3 FO's, an RBR and a BCK. I remember the stock being used on premier charter services. I reckon I could probably do with a couple more to make a long enough train, but would like to know whether I could do with two FO's or a FO and a BCK (or something else!) I have a Hornby mark 2 that has been painted nicely in Intercity livery, i've got a recollection that the odd one was included in these rakes - complete with white roof. Not sure whether i'm imagining things! Any input greatly welcolmed!

During 1989 the set did a number of tours of Great Britain consisting of 7 Mk1 day coaches with 6 Mk3 sleepers attached for the overnight runs. Day tours appear to consist of 9 or 10. It appears then that one Brake would be enough, but maybe an extra buffet would be required. Interesting to see that they used any old 47 as opposed to I/C liveried ones. I seem to remember that 2834 (and 2833) were BCK's used for staff. Thanks again. Jon

Jon Yes, another RBR as each one was serving 2 or 3 FOs. Brake in the middle efectivly making 2 half sets. The BCKs had some compartments converted to sleeping accomodation. I found the photo with the Mk2 in the set. Merfyn

edcayton
Is that Blaeneau Festiniog? Ed
kintbury jon
I may well end up spraying the roof of my mark 2 and leave the BCK at the end. The BCK has a flashing tail light powered by two batteries, it would be a waste to form it in the middle of the train! Ed - it does look like Blaenau. kintbury jon
Right i've been busy the last hour or so masking the Mark 2 up and respraying the roof white. First the original rake, FO, RBR, FO, FO, BCK The Hornby BFK prior to repainting. I picked this up off ebay for a few quid and was quite pleased with the paintjob on it. The roof painted and inserted into the rake. I'm quite pleased with the outcome, it's amazing how the white roof brightens up the appearance of the carriage. You may notice a wanted post appearing in the next few hours!
swhite01
I have a couple of pics of the Mk1's on a service through Reading in 1992. The pics are in my fotopic site but unfortunately are scattered through the collection... one example http://gallery17789.fotopic.net/p45361092.html .. I will check to see if I have a photo of the complete rake. Steve w

RMweb Premium 5944 Posted September 6, 2010 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 6, 2010 2833 and 2834 were AU5 vehicles, converted from BCKs. The first class compartments have single berths in them, the second class compos had a set of bunk beds. The vestibule between the first class and the guards compo had the doors removed and plated over, and a shower installed. The middle toilet also has a CET tank underneath now, the end toilet is a store cupboard.

HullCityB17
I think either the 1990 Combined Rolling Stock book or the 1991 Platform 5 Coaching Stock book had a picture of the MKII at Hull Paragon Station whilst the other book had a picture of one of the Mk1's from one of the above sets I believe at York Station.
