dibber25
Work on the restoration of Canada's magnificent Kinsol trestle started in June. The former CN trestle over the Koksilah River on Vancouver island is 650ft long and 150ft high and is believed to be the largest surviving wooden bridge in the Commonwealth. It has been disused since 1979 and has been the subject of argument for years. Eventually it became as expensive to let it fall into the (salmon) river as to repair it. A camera has been set up and takes a shot every 15 minutes. These are archived and you can scan through them to see how quickly the job is going. Modellers can also see pretty clearly just how a proper timber trestle is made up. (Most of the kits are too simplified). To find the camera: Put BC Ministry of Transport into Google On the left, click on Projects, Programs and info Then click on BC Highways Cams The Kinsol camera is the second one down. Money is still needed to complete the public contributions. Amounts of C$100 upwards get your name on a supporters' wall at the trestle. www.kinsol.ca is the website for info, more pics and donations.
