Arthur
The seminal work on LMS signalling practice was 'A Pictorial Record of LMS Signals'  by L.G. Warburton, published in 1972 by OPC.  It has long been out of print and I went to the trouble of photocopying the entire book in the early eighties.  It's now been re-issued in softback, link to Ian Allan Publishing; http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/a-pictorial-record-of-l-m-s-signals-standard-semaphore-signals-and-signal-boxes.html though no doubt available elsewhere. bike2steam
Many thanks for that info, I have ordered a copy from Kevin (Robertson), the cover pic is very similar (swap l/h distant for a home/starter) to one of the signals under construction for my layout .
