Orient express correct roof color

Hi all,

 

It's been a long time since I've been here. So long I had to register again.

 

My question is on the new HO Rivarossi/Hornby Orient express cars, (Simplon, Ostende-Wien) the first ones out a few years ago, Hornby has made the roofs light brown/tan instead of either white or black.

 

After much research, posting, and listening to other people, the brown color is definitely incorrect. I am just about to paint my 12-14 cars roofs white.

 

Any one have any research saying that the brown roof is correct? I don't want to mess up something that might be collectible as a mess up from the factory when I'm 94 years old.

I built the rake for Paul Wade's Tonbridge West, seen here being hauled by the "might have been Clan Hengist"

 

Went to Stewart's lane to photograph and check the details, the roofs were white then,

I had presumed the Pullman cars had White roofs too. Apparently, they weathered very quickly though, becoming Grey under all the soot etc.

I have been waiting probably 3 years now to finally decide to paint the roofs white.

 

Tonight I test painted a salon with my airbrush. Perfect! The color matched the others, and the flat sealant was just, and I mean just under the glossy sheen the factory white roofs are.

 

I am very pleased. Now I have thirteen more to do. The cars are not going to be perfect, because they used too much brown in the creme (blue and creme versions).

 

Yes, I bought the whole lot when the new Hornby/Rivarossi cars came out. I think the only ones I do not have are the Train Bleue.

 

One regret is that I did not get the new Roco Pacific Nord. They are all sold out here in the states.

 

I am going to start another thread about the CIWL I think in just general.
