Theakerr
For anyone who uses reed switches on their layout for any purpose, beware. A friend brought over his LNER L1 last night and we discovered that it was activating my reed switches as it passed over them. Confirmed it by doing a static off track test. This is the first time i have ever come across this phenomena. Beautiful runner. Will pull 9 of the old and heavy Lima Mk 1s with no trouble at all. Nice slow starting and stopping as well. Front truck comes off on one point though. I guess that is another thread.
Jenny Emily
I've seen some locomotives with a powerful magnetic field do all sorts. The old Hornby Dublo class 28 was a terror for changing the electric points every time it passed if they had a weak spring. I'm not sure what you could do to shield the field though. HLT 0109
Front truck comes off on one point though. I guess that is another thread. As you say, this is not really the purpose of this thread but Model Rail magazine had the green L1 for assessment and found the front truck derailing regularly. Subsequently they tested a black L1 and found it did not derail. Possibly it is faulty example that should be returned for attention.
