Joining Scalescenes Textured elements

Recommended Posts

I have been meaning to post this tip for ages, but have just got around to it!

When joining two texture paper covered pices of model together, e.g. the internal walls of the Country Pub, it is not unknown for the texture paper to 'lift' from one part so that the other part is joined only by a layer of unsecured paper. This can happen most frequently when the paper has been stuck to the card with 'X-Stick' and the mating wall/element is subsequently fixed with P.V.A. adhesive. I believe the water in the P.V.A. softens the 'X-Stick' adhesive and during subsequent manipulation the joint fails.

To get around this, and to ensure a good lasting joint is made I have for some time been puncturing the paper layer with a sharp point, such as a school-compasses point. It allows 'micro-dowels' of P.V.A. to bridge the gap between each piece. Since adopting this practice I have not had a joint fail.

I hope this will be of some use to someone.....
