Renumbering a Jinty

Recommended Posts

I wish to renumber one of the Triang Jinty's I have from 47606.

It had missing BR lion decals and this was easily fixed with HMRS PRESSFIX transfers.

I have a smoke box number of 47378 from 247 developments.

But I have not removed and replaced the white cab numbers before.

So what advice can practioners give me about removing the white 47606 numbers?

Are the PRESSFIX numbers okay as these are yellow?

I have micro trip masking tape to help position the numbers.

Is there a source which will do runs of complete 5 digit numbers to avoid positioning disasters?

I have searched and read many threads but it seems they pertain to Hornby and

Bachmann with Bachmann transfers being easier to remove than Hornby.

Also is there a source to find the correct shed code and replace this on the front?

Grateful for pointers.

The problem with renumbering Tri-ang locos is that they are usually heat printed (the alternative waterslide transfers will scrape off with a fingernail). This needs to be filled in and smoothed off before using transfers. A pain, as I am in the process of doing one, removing the non-prototypical lining in the process. Otherwise just paint black.

The cab numbers were supposed to be cream coloured, but shades from white to yellow appeared. I always use Pressfix transfers. They can be slid into place and give a good result, with care. Working with slightly damp transfers helps.

They look much better with Hornby wheels (which have the correct number of spokes (15). The other problem is losing 2mm of excess buffer height.
