In January 1976 British Rail abolished the display of the train headcode on its locomotive fleet

 

On the 3rd January 1976 Class 52 1055 Western Advocate running light engine was badly damaged after running into the back of a parcels train on the approach to Worcester Shrub Hill.

 

As a result of collision damage 20074 is the first class 20 to be withdrawn.

 

03164 and 27006 are withdrawn due to fire damage.

 

47155 was loaned to the Central Electricity Generating Board at West Thurrock Power Station to temporally replace part of the power station electrical equipment which was under repair.
