Sylvian Tennant
I have a rake of four bogie bolster "c"s from Bachmann, which I hopefully would like to strengthen to 9. However, I have recently found out that these are actually the GWR bolster wagons with a new paint scheme. I'm a bit undecided about wether to convert them to a fair representation of the real thing or just leave them as per. In the end they do look really good but fortunatly/unfortunatly I have the modelling bug where as I like to make a decent run at things. So out of interest, have you made do or have you converted yours and if you have, how did you go about it? Also, how have people weathered the decking for the bolster wagons? There's a few photos here that might be of interest, Sylvain:- http://emgaugemodelslayouts.fotopic.net/p38090380.html http://emgaugemodelslayouts.fotopic.net/p38093443.html Both of these look as though they use the original bogies. You could replace the bogies using the roller-bearing plate-frame from Cambrian, or the same company's Davis and Metcalf or Gloucester ones. Look at Paul Bartlett's site for inspiration, and for the detail variations of things such as brakes and bolster locations:- http://gallery6801.fotopic.net/c432496.html http://gallery6801.fotopic.net/c435491.html There should be enough to keep you going for a while... craigwelsh
BR plate bogies had the single bigger spring while the GWR ones had two for the bolster is the biggest difference you may want to look at. I think the early BR ones didn't have holes either and the latter ones came with them again.
