johnw1 Posted February 24, 2011 Share Posted February 24, 2011 Extracts from Modern Railways and The Railway Observer Locomotives Withdrawn 1040/47, 03099, 03102/05/10, 24066/70/73/90/97/99, 24100/01/02/09/11/17/26/27/32 Locomotives Stored: (*subsequently re-instated) 08316, 24027/30/38/41/46/77/83, 24137/41/42, 25009/12/13/14, 40026/41/45/89, 40161*, 44010 Locomotives Modified Dual Brake Fitted: 45033, 47146 The class 03 pilot duties at Shildon Wagon works were converted to class 08 duties with 08004/71 and 08167 being present at Shildon on the 22nd February 1976. Newcastle United reached the League Cup Final at Wembley on the 28th February 1976 and British Rail ran a total of twenty three additional trains (from lunch time on the Friday until 08:40 on the Saturday morning) from Newcastle to London. Thirteen ran to Kings Cross powered by 40080/83, 47011/42, 47175/83, 47215/79, 47407/08/12/31, 47541, five ran to St Pancras powered by 45036, 46017/29/30/31 and five ran to Wembley powered by 47169, 47413/17, 47522/28.
