Jeffrey
Hello, Everyone. I have been a model railroader much of my life. In addition to a collection of North American stuff, in recent years I've gathered a modest collection of British OO-scale stuff, mostly "Grouping" Era LNER and LMS rolling stock. I am in the process of relocating from Detroit to Chattanooga, Tennessee. My interest in British prototypes made me a bit of a lone wolf, but at least there was some activity as near as London, Ontario, and the Great British Train Show near Toronto. In Tennessee I expect to be much more dependent on Ebay and mail order. I had an idea for a fictional railway line in the Teesdale area of Northern England, and then online I found the Stainmore Railway in almost exactly the same routing! I have gathered as much information as I can online, and have a book with LMS passenger train consists. Other than Hornby, Bachmann Branchline, and Peco catalogs I don't have too much else. Can anyone recommend resources of information about LNER and LMS? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. If I can offer any assistance on North American railroads, especially those in the Midwest, please feel free to ask. Regards, Jeffrey
Ragtag
Hi, and let me be the first to welcome you to RMWeb. While my focus is a little further north than yours, a quick google search churned out the following which look like they might be of use to you: http://www.kirkbystepheneast.co.uk/ http://www.cumbria-railways.co.uk/stainmore_history.html http://www.cumbria-railways.co.uk/stainmore_railway_summit.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Durham_and_Lancashire_Union_Railway As for sites about LNER and LMS, was there some specific aspect you needed? If it's just general info try putting them into google or wikipedia - the latter should lead you on to some reasonable websites.
RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted November 18, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 18, 2009 Jeffrey: Chattanooga is not a total backwater. You will have the NMRA headquarters there and I think there might be a BR coach a the railroad museum. We'll be sorry to lose you at the GBTS. Jeffrey
Also, I could get British model railway magazines at Chapters in Windsor, Ontario, when I went over for MG club meetings. I don't think I'll readily find those anymore. Thanks for the tips. NMRA HQ is a job for those people, not a hobby, and there doesn't appear to be much serious hobby activity in the area unfortunately. I'll see what I can find, and what I can instigate!
