mobi323
I am modeling pre-WWII GWR in OO. I have made a station consisting of two through platforms with a third track between the two passenger platforms. I have made up a Metcalfe footbridge. I have extended it to span the three tracks. I can extend it a bit further if I have to and in fact I may do so no matter what. My question is how close to the side of the carriage does the footbridge have to be? My bridge is 24 inches from the side if the carriage. In these days of hermatically sealed carriages this distance may be very safe but in the old steam days where people can lean out the windows it may be a bit dangerous. But are there regulations as to the clearance?
Kenton
Somewhere on RMWeb there are clearer images - need to have a search for similar topics.
buffalo
I couldn't find where it had been posted before (plenty on signal clearances), but here is a copy I took at the time. Nick
mobi323
Thank you! Measuring from the centre line of the track out to the bridge is 7'11" which is 3" over the desirable. So looks like I'm in limits. It does look close. I suppose it shows that we took our lives somewhat in our hands when we stuck our heads out the window. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 8, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 8, 2011 Don't forget that if the foot bridge is on the station platform it should comply with the 6 ft minimum between the bridge structure and the platform edge. The 7'11"/7'8" measurement applies to lineside bridge etc structures.
mobi323
Oops. I didn't notice that. I'll have to expand the footbridge.
