I said I was only going once but January 2010 was my 3rd trip, back there in January 2012. I describe it as a Marmite country, you either love it or loathe it.

A small selection of the Indian photos in my gallery (see link in footer).

At the risk of narrowing "Incredible India" down to just the DHR, can I add a couple of photos from 2009?

Having travelled the line and heard how often entire sections are washed away, I can imagine that the DHR must be one of the more challenging places to hold the post of Senior Track Engineer!

A particular touch that appealed to me was the series of "road safety" signs that were placed alongside the road and clearly visible from the railway. One example is attached below.

An absolutely incredible experience.

Best wishes

Eric

There are many good signs on the "Hill Cart Road" alongside the DHR. I must dig out one that I have just above Rangtong it suggests that you give blood to the blood bank not onto the road. The DHRS (link in footer) used to sell many of these as fridge magnets and would be good as car stickers rather than kids on board.

On the task list this week get a visa ready for when I go (again) in January. Not going to DHR (for a change) but have many other interesting places to go to.

Just finished sorting out the photos from the 3 week trip to India in January.

I extended the tour by flying out early and went from Delhi to Agra to see the various World Heritage sites there (Akbars tomb, Baby Taj (Itmad-ud-Daula's Tomb), Red fort and obviously the Taj Mahal).

In Delhi I visited Humayun's tomb, Red fort, Qutub Minar, India Gate, Delhi NRM and Rail Bhavan for the plinthed DHR B class.

Visited a few railways and depots

Had WP 7161 from Delhi to Rewari where they had another BG loco in steam for us.

Also went to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the (India-Pakistan) border closing ceremony and shot a few Tigers in the nature reserve at Pench. (No I didn't use a machine gun as per The Itallian Job but used the camera instead!)

Got to see/ride trains on the Kangra Valley and Satpur lines prior to the gauge conversion from 2'6" to 5'6"

Sat watching a video dad found in the cupboard (remember what those are?) the other night with metre gauge steam trains running the line from Jodhpur to Jaipur. This is now another of the 5'6" gauge lines south west of Rewari. See http://www.rewaristeamloco.com/home/ for details about Rewari steam shed. At rewari they have a Fowler steam roller also got to see another Fowler steam roller in Nagpur.

I'll pop some photos up when I get a chance.
