Earl Bathurst
Hi Just primed the body of the loco i need to paint. The loco is going to be brunswick green. Which colour should i paint first the buffer beams, smoke box or the green body? Thanks
matto21
I'd paint the green first, followed by the smokebox and bufferbeam. Doing it this way should make it easier to spray and mask
Guest Max Stafford
A smart move would be to mask off the buffer beam from all the other painting activity and before you go anywhere near the red paint, build up a good base coat of white. Red takes a few coats to build up and any dark colour will show through and cast an excessively dark tone through your red. Dave.
Etched Pixels
For buffer beams I often cheat especially if its got the buffers attached in a hard to remove way - they get whatever base colour, then brushed white or red primer (alas GW seem to have stopped making the latter) and then the red. Having said that after lining the last one I'm firmly of the opinion that all steam locomotives should be chosen for modelling on the basis they were at some point painted plain black.
