RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted May 31, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 31, 2011 Were GWR coal drop ramps always made of brick or stone? Or were any ever made from banked earth? If they were made of earth, I guess they would have had a retaining wall at the buffer end? Thanks in advance.
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted May 31, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 31, 2011 Weymouth's was earth, even the buffer stop end.
RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted June 1, 2011 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 1, 2011 Thanks - that's made my planning easier - I'm going to squeeze this into a corner, with the ramp on a curve and the "flat" portion straight - with a straight road adjacent t for the engines to coal. RMweb Premium petethemole Posted June 1, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 1, 2011 You're in luck. The approach ramp at Weymouth was curved for part of the way up. Ill PM you a pic. Pete
RMweb Premium Banger Blue Posted June 1, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 1, 2011 A couple of pics from Didcot Railway Centre with the Coaling stage in the background, in the first one you can see the earth banking with the buffer stop visible. RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted June 1, 2011 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 1, 2011 Pete and Banger - many thanks. I am liking the retaining wall at the bottom of the Didcot banking. I think I have just planned that in. Banger - I'm missing BZN like a hole in the head. Guess it'll be getting noisier there soon. I think I spent more time waiting than flying from BZN.
