Jon020
A few Deltic photos that I was lucky enough to capture on a visit to Bury late last year... it was getting dark, but the opportunity was given and taken. Hopefully these will be of use, and supplement those from Brian Hanson when he re-homes his fotopic resource... hopefully on the extreme etchings site. Jon020
To replace the photos above, I've only just found Brian Daniels photos on Flickr... and the page covering class 55 details is here this site is well worth a look; Brian D has done a fantastic job. I will see if Brian H will let me post some of his on here - or on my flickr pages
Jon020
Right..... Brian Hanson has given me permission to temporarily post his Deltic detail photos on my Flickr site (mind you, it cost me an upgrade.... but it's there now). I've put Brians photos on here (see link) to assist any budding modeller attempting a detailing exercise of the EE machine. There are still some omissions - some detail shots of cast bogies would be nice..hopefully martin Walker will oblige once RSG has been re-shod. For now... let's hope that these are of use... they were for me http://www.flickr.co...57627007863411/

Jon020
Hi Jon, How many Disk's full would you like?... I have literally hundreds! Hi Brian, well now there's a thought. Perhaps we could find a way to catalogue these images and put together some form of reference work (as if you and I had time for such a tome). I've often wondered whether a Deltic in Detail book would have a use... There are plenty of references out there, including Ian Strange's fabulous work... but I think that given the plethora of photographic material out there (or with you by the sounds of it - and Brian Daniels too plus others I'm sure) there is room for a useful reference resource. Books to day tend to cover history of class, operation and development, but I've yet to find an illustrative work that goes right into the detail ... looking at all aspects in close up and covering all he class memeber differences (although Ian covered this in Demythology).... that combined with photographic material might prove useful. As for now... if I find myself wondering about something specific, I'll drop you a line - that's a promise. What I am actually looking for is a little historic ... photos of Nimbus circa 1975... which fits the config my loco is going to be... complete with sanding pipes and TOPS number. There's a picture in Norman Preedy's small A5 softback "Book of the Deltics" of Nimbus in Jan 1975, running light into the cross.... with the sanding pipes, TOPS and domino headcode (very small white dots). What I'm not sure about is whether Nimbus had the larger dots before loosing the sanding pipes ... which is what I plan to represent... if there is a discrepancy... I'll just resort to artistic license... so I'm not too bothered, but it'd be nice to bottom it out. Thanks for responding ... I realise you're very busy... and we'll catch up sometime soon... hopefully at Scaleforum if not before Jon

What I'm not sure about is whether Nimbus had the larger dots before loosing the sanding pipes ... which is what I plan to represent... Jon Hi Jon, I've done a bit searching and it would appear that Nimbus only had the small dot domino headcode with sanding gear up to the 4/12/75 (pic ref here: http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/20_31-8-75.htm) when it went into Doncaster works for its final intermediate repair.. This repair would include removal and plating over of the sanding equipment/hatches and presumably the replacement of the headcode glass to the more usual sized domino dots (as here: http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/20_15-8-76.htm) It was released back to traffic on the 2/3/76 and certainly all the pictures I have seen from early '76 have had 'normal' dominos.. Hope this helps?.. Cheers! Brian
Jon020
Brian, I think you've put the jigsaw together in a manner I struggled with... and I accept what you've written. I'd seen these pics ... but hoped there had been an intermediate condition. Perhaps not. OK.... so my Nimbus will have some artistic license applied... and why? because I really don't think the small dots suit the loco's look. That's just my opinion... but it's my loco isn't it . Thanks for the response... currently enjoying the calm before the storm... a house full of 6 and 7 year olds... youngest's 7th birthday today... oh welll.... it can't hurt too long can it <br><br>Update: might consider 4-digit code 1E05 and either 1S17, 1S16, 1S42 or something like that<br>
the penguin of doom
Hi all. I was lucky enough to be bought a driver experience day with D335 for my birthday this year, (maintaining smug grin.....), and during the shed visit, I had chance to photo D9000 and D9016. At the risk of duplicating some of the pictures above, here are some of mine - you can never have too many Deltic pictures..... Cheers. Sean.
Jon020
Well done Sean. So, how was the whistler experience? Quite fancied one of these myself.... might just have to save up a bit Jon
the penguin of doom
Well done Sean. So, how was the whistler experience? Quite fancied one of these myself.... might just have to save up a bit Jon Hi Jon. The day was absolutely fantastic made even more so by the staff at the railway and the train crew who were probably as enthusiastic about the day as I was! So much so that I have been considering becoming a volunteer - the only constraint being the distance to travel for me. The whistler was performing well, (not that I'd know the difference if she wasn't of course). It was a great feeling having the loco as your charge and something I'll never forget. One tick less on the bucket list. Next box to tick is a model of D335 but I'll stick to the Deltic subject here in case of offence..... He heh. You'll notice I have taken some close ups of the tail lamps. For obvious reasons..... Anywho, my advice is, if opportunity knocks as regards the driver experience, don't knock it. They have the Deltics on the driver days too..... As if I needed to mention it! Cheers. Sean.
