westcountryman
Hi, I thought I'd just like to add my first real topic since starting on RMweb. We've recently moved back to North Devon from the wilds of East Anglia, & I would like to say how delighted I was to find a local, independent retailer. The majority of retailers in Norfolk only ever specialised in GER & LNER items, with only a few examples of 'other stuff'. I happened upon this wonderful outlet whilst wandering around the town, as my other half was spending our retirement money in the usual retailers! At last, a local, knowledgeable specialist retailer, who prides himself on matching or in most cases beating the internet & national big players. The stock carried within the shop reflects the majority of local interest, but carried stock to cater for all disciplines & they cover the majority of popular scales & manufacturers. It's all too easy to rely on the multi- page adverts in the modelling press, rather than searching out a friendly local dealer. At least if you can call in & discuss your wishes with a friendly face, you can actually benefit from years of knowledge, handy if you are returning to the hobby after a long break! The owner directed me to my local railway modelling club (Barnstaple MRC) & informed me of their forthcoming exhibition, so it's not just a question of shifting stock. So, if you are in the area, either as a resident or tourist, try to give a few minutes to Smallworld, Bear Street, Barnstaple, North Devon, it's well worth the effort. 10800
Hi Rob That's good to know. If you venture down the line to Exeter you might also call in on Dave Harding's Model Shop on St Davids Hill (http://www.trainsandtrack.co.uk/) (No connection apart from being a satisfied customer).
