Diesel Dayz
Hi Folks. An introduction to my 0 Gauge layout 'RAMSDALE' This is a major change in direction for me. Having built 'fish tank layouts' (Nobbs End & Duke Street) I have decided to have a go in 0. Ramsdale is one of those rural backwaters that existed in the early 1960's in the Derbyshire Dales. The layout is a small goods yard at the end of a truncated branchline. The layout measures 14ft x 2ft inc fiddleyard (10ft x 2ft scenic). The boards are constructed of 2" x 1" frames topped with 9mm plywood. The scenic boards are two @ 4'x 2' and one of 2'x 2'. The fiddleyard is a 4'x 1' frame to support cassettes. At the moment I have laid and wired the track, ballasted two of the boards and have built the overbridge (6mm ply, Das Clay and plasticard). I have also started construction of the cutting for the approach to the yard. Other bits and pieces include the Yard Office and Goods Store which are from Skytrex. The Coal Staithes and Drystone Walling are from 10 Commandments. As is the norm for me, Ramsdale will be DCC. Although I have managed to obtain some rolling stock I must express my gratitude to Stephen Shepherd who is prepared to let me use some of his including some of his loco's and help me run Ramsdale.(I still don't think the 9f will fit though)! Ramsdale already has four exhibition bookings and these are; Ruddington 13 / 14 August 2011 Mickleover 1 / 2 October 2011 Belper 2012 Mansfield 2012 I'll post some pics later! Diesel Dayz
Hi folk's, here's an update on Ramsdale. Progress has been slow due to work commitments but I have had a couple of 'free' weekends and have realy got stuck in and Ramsdale has really taken shape. It's off to Ruddington next weekend and although Ramsdale propably won't be entirely complete at least the vast majority has been completed and it's up and running. One of the major decisions made was which point motors to use. I didn't want to use solenoid type and had received much welcome advice from fellow RM Webbers regarding slow action motors. In the end I chose Cobalt. These are now fitted and work great. It's nice to press the switch and watch the point blades move slowly! I also took the opportunity to try the Brush-It-On range of scenic products and I personnally find them very good. Any hoo here'sa few piccies of the progress made. Diesel Dayz
I assume you will be fencing off that puddle between the tracks some time It could be the entrance to the 'fabled marmalade mine' No,but, actually it's the site of the yet unfinished yard crane. Hopefully have it ready for weekend!
Diesel Dayz
After the Ruddington show last year, Ramsdale was mothballed as I was concentrating on exhibiting my other layout - Church Lane Sidings. I was asked by Mike Bellamy if I would bring Ramsdale along to the 7mm Narrow Gauge exhibition at Mickleover. The reason for this was to provide a test track for the Ixion Hudswell Clark 0-6-0. The following photo's were taken at the exhibition yesterday. Due to starting a new project, Ramsdale is for sale. PM me for details. Alan
