QRModeller
Hi, I would just like to know how the signs with the station's name on it on the platforms were and are illuminated from BR corporate era to the present day. Thanks. Matt.
corax67
Purely from memory and experience I believe that the station name boards did not/do not have dedicated lighting. Normally the signs which are placed on the platforms are situated in such a manner that they are illuminated from the overspill of the general station & platform lighting. Not a brilliant illustration but : http://www.desktops-wallpapers.com/Exports%20from%20Aperture/Night/1280_1024/Train_station_at_night_Bingham_Nottingham_UK.jpg
Edwin_m
In my own recollection mainly as Karl says. BR went through a phase of putting the station name on the fluorescent light covers but that was before the Corporate era. Some stations have larger running-in boards towards the ends of the platforms. Those installed around 1990 were often lit by internal fluorescent tubes, and some of these are still there in rebranded form. One of these (or a later one) just appears on the right hand side of this picture.
