Fay Singpoint
Transpennine express diversions via Manchester Victoria. especially the over nighters reverse in the Passing loop at Salford Crescent. When Guide Bridge or Ashbury's have gone a bit sick (cable thefts or overheads problems) then I have had the odd pleasure of a trip or two to Salford Crescent or the Cornbrook Turnback siding on my journeys from York to Man Picc. When travelling one Sunday evening from home (Lowestoft) to home (Stafford) on a Norwich-Peterborough service we managed to avoid Ely. F
StaffsOatcake
Another example was recently introduced with the connection of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways accross Porthmadog. WHR trains have to reverse on the Cob to access Harbour station. Well they do and they don't. The train is always travelling forward as there is a loco at each end during this proceedure. In days of yore when the Potteries loop line was a service from Radway Green (Alsager) to Cheadle/Swynerton that used to reverse at Harecastle (Now Kidsgrove station) by pulling onto the main and then setting back along the main line to Kidsgrove (now closed and is a Tesco) and then proceeding forward along the loop line to Stoke via Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley and joining the mainline at Etruria , and the opposite in the reverse direction reversing.
