Hi

May I suggest:

The Southern Electric Story By Michael H C Baker Silver Link Publishing ISBN 0 947971 85 8 . Covers 1930-1990s

Southern Electric by John Glover Ian Allen ISBN 0 7110 2807 9 . Covers 1890-2000

Southern Electric (3rd Edition 1960) By G.T.Moody Ian Allen before ISBN issued. Covers 1900- 1960 phase 1 Kent coast Electrification

Southern Electrics (A Pictorial Survey) Bryan Rayner D. Bradford Barton Ltd ISBN0 85153 220 9 . Covers 1890-1970 as the title states.

It is best to order/ reserve copies from your local library before you purchase as they are £20 plus if you can find them and they may not cover the areas / dates of your interests.

There are more Southern EMU books than you might think. Apart from those above (the Bradford Barton one is excellent but hard to find these days) I can suggest:

Southern EMUs Before Privatisation in Colour - Bruce Oliver, Ian Allan 2010. Mostly blue and blue/grey period.

First Generation Southern EMUs - Kevin Robertson, Ian Allan 2005. Up to and including Mk1 based stock.

Southern EMUs in Colour - John C Morgan, Ian Allan 1994. Quite a bit of blue period photos, some NSE.

Southern Electric - a New History - David Brown, Capital Transport, Volumes 1 and 2, 2010. New definitive history to 1983, Vol 1 concentrates on early history and suburban trains, Vol 2 on the main line electrifications.

A Southern Electric Album - Michael Welch, Capital Transport 2003. Mostly covers BR green era.

Southern Electric Album - Alan Williams, Ian Allan 1977.

Southern Electric Multiple Units 1898-1948, and 1948-1983 - Colin Marsden, Ian Allan 1983.

A Pictorial Record of Southern Electric Units, Drawings and Plans - Brian Golding, Noodle Books 2009.

By the way, there is also a Southern Electrics group on RMWeb, so this might have been better posted there - but since it's here now I will provide a link.
