The annual Australian Model Railway Association (AMRA) exhibition was held over the weekend of August 20th and 21st, 2011. This is THE big event for the year, although it has almost been eclipsed by the Sandown exhibition held in April in more recent years.

Here are some photos I took at the AMRA exhibition on Sunday 21/08/2011. There were many high quality layouts present but I was only able to photograph a few of them due to time constraints.

Adrian Hoade can be relied upon to produce some fabulously imaginative and whimsical layouts for exhibitions. He has displayed the lighthouse a few times now but his sister is now getting in on the act and produced the fairyland theme, Pookchurch Wood. Children were invited to press the red button to run the train.

There were several Australian themed layouts but these two caught my eye. One is Victorian the other shows Australian National trains.

There were also European themed layouts, again, two caught my eye.

The Model Bus Association of Australia (of which I am also a member) had their High Street layout, showing Faller buses in operation as well as trams from various parts of the world, plus a static display stand and a modelling demonstration.

One of my favourites is the Triang and Minic Motorways layout, using entirely proprietary components, some of which are now very rare.

Another interesting British-based layout used mostly proprietary trains in a more "modelled" setting.

There were a good many traders present too. My good friend Mary de la Lande had her Brunel Hobbies stand.

These New South Wales single-deck Interurban units are now available ready to run.

The British Railway Modellers stand, on which I was present, with our demonstration layout. This is used to show modelling techniques as well as DCC and DCC sound demos. The guy on the right is our own PCM!
