Manhole Cover Images

I took some photos of various manhole covers earlier today to use on the pavement on my Brockley Hill diorama. I thought I'd post them here in case they are of use to anyone else printing their own paving textures. Prototype dimensions are beneath each image for accurate scaling.

As an aside, while I was standing on the pavement barefoot (I was only a couple of metres from my front door so I hadn't put any shoes on) and measuring a manhole cover, one of my neighbours came out their front door wearing all of a gorilla suit but the head, with a t-shirt over it. I couldn't decide which of us looked stranger!

Very helpful, thanks (I will resize, print out, cut out, then apply to the painted and finished plasticard pavement outside the Mr Brunel's Hat pub). I do have a question, though. Do you have any ideas as to the age of said manhole (sorry) personhole covers? From their colouring (presumably some sort of weathering) the water and gas covers seem a lot older than the others.

Thanks all.

iL Dottore, these are my best guesses for the manhole covers I have some clue as to the age of:

Electricity - 1960 - 1980, probably dates to 1967 when the houses it serves were built.

Water 1 - pre 1990s.

Water 2 - modern domestic water meter, 1990s onwards.

Post Office Telephones 1 and 2 - manufacture pre-1980, but installation could have been later as stocks were used up. Each may date to 1967 as above.

British Telecom pair of large square covers - 1980 - 1991.

BT - Recent, probably post-2000.

Fire Hydrant - The manufacturer J Blakeborough & Sons closed in 1989, but it looks substantially older. Again, may date to 1967.

Hope that is of help,

Paul
