iL Dottore
Those who follow my scribblings will know that I was very unhappy with the geometric frieze castings for Mr Brune's Hat - despite having simplified the master considerably. As I was thinking about which of the solutions proposed by Chubber, dwhite4dcc, Nick Holliday and ChrisF I got a very nice PM from Dave (unravelled) who basically said "I have a laser cutter and I could have a go at the geometric frieze" A few e-mails and some photos and sketches later, I received the following photo: Wow! Well, of course, I said yes to such an offer. A week or so later I receive a package of laser cut friezes and a CD of internal and external photos of the Old Blue Last from unravelled (top bloke that man!). This is the laser cut geometric frieze (using card) I then assembled the frieze on very thin plasticard using plastic strip for the top and bottom part of the frieze and using MekPak to glue the geometric frieze to the plasticard. I used a ruler to get the strip straight and a stanley knife replacement blade to get the spacing between strip and geometric frieze accurate and consistent. Here is the assembled frieze before trimming: And now cut and trimmed: Dave also cut the slightly different geometric blocks that go on the pillars on the right side of the pub (trimmed but not yet sized) The whole assembly is a fraction under 6mm wide - exactly matching the 4mm sketches of the Old Blue Last Thanks to unravelled's generosity I have been able to keep the building of MBH at the level I want it to be, so I am a very happy camper.
