And I'm hoping that a corner will be found for my 2011 Challenge entry "Hockley Goods" on at least one of the two days.

Will this be the first of the entries to get a public airing?

Hi Don

As the exhibition organiser is away this week, I'll make the decision and say Yes Please! I'm sure we can find a space for you - after all it won't take up much room will it.

Had a bit of a nightmare when we went into the Community Centre last week as they have built a partition wall in the main storage area where we run the Club second hand stall which means that it isn't wide enough to get tables in there. There is another small room we can use but because the door opens into a corridor and then blocks the fire exit we are going to have to take the door off !!

This will be the first showing of our new OO layout that will replace 'Neverwhere' over the winter. Also being shown at this show for the first time is Henmore which is the 7mm narrow gauge layout from the Trent Valley Area Group of 7mmNGA and several from that group are also members of MMRG. Our last outing with this layout was at Wigan a couple of years ago shown here http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/TVG/wigan.htm We met at the pub (where else!) yesterday to plan some rather radical changes to the layout but it'll be a year or two before the new version will be ready.

Time to bump this back to the top of the list as our 47th exhibition is this weekend 1st and 2nd October.

Looking forward to seeing new layouts and new traders plus a few of the old favourites (as in layouts, not club members :O )

I'm working on the exhibition guide and will post a full description of every exhibit later

All set up except for one trade stand.

As an extra bonus we have Hockley Goods from DonB - is this the first 2011 Challenge Diorama to be seen at a show?

As promised I have listed the full details below

MICKLEOVER MODEL RAILWAY GROUP

47th ANNUAL EXHIBITION – 2011

Welcome to our 47th Annual Exhibition, which again shows the variety of the modelling skills of our members. All of the layouts on display belong to the club, or are exhibited by our members. The club caters for all ages (but with children under strict parental supervision) and has members with a diverse range of interests and abilities. We meet on Tuesday and Friday evenings at our clubrooms at the Community Centre. Please ask any of our members for further details.

IN THE CLUBROOMS

DUFFIELD OO Gauge Club Layout

This is the second incarnation of Duffield as the main Club layout. The previous layout was declared “life expired” a few years ago and the decision was made to rebuild the whole lot. What you see today is the result of a great deal of work by a small number of club members working a few hours each week. Work on the scenery has progressed since last year but there is still a vast amount of work to be done and it will be several years before it will be regarded as finished. Look out for the ‘Wirksworth Quarries’ wagons – a limited edition commissioned for the Club and EVRA from Bachmann – sorry they are now sold out L

WARNER STREET O Gauge Club Layout

This layout is a double track main line terminus with two main platforms and a bay as well as a small goods yard. Since its last appearance, some of the trackwork and scenic area have been remodelled, with most of this work being undertaken by the junior members of the Club. The layout is fed from a traverser which has also been modified. The period to be modelled is not fixed, as a club layout has to cater for a wide variety of tastes although generally the bulk of operation will be BR steam and green diesels.

EVERYWHERE OO Gauge Club Layout

Our newest layout, this will soon be replacing ‘Neverwhere’ and again it is planned to have a 'scenery only' layout so that a variety of stock can be used, including UK outline OO and Continental and American HO. The track spacing has also been planned to accommodate On30 narrow gauge and the upper level has a circuit of OO9/HOe. All of the track is now operational and a start has been made on the scenery. Come back next year to see the progress made.

IN THE COMMUNITY CENTRE

HENMORE 7mm Narrow Gauge Trent Valley Area Group

This layout is being exhibited at the Mickleover show for the first time as several Club members are also members of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association. The track is 16.5mm gauge but everything is to a scale of 7mm:ft. This then represents a narrow gauge line with a track gauge of around 2ft 3ins. The layout shows Ashbourne Park Road station with the line from Hopton Quarries off to the north and a link to the west to the main LNWR line on the other side of Ashbourne. Much of the line disappeared with the construction of Carsington reservoir.

DERWENT VALLEY N Gauge Club Layout

A preserved 'might have been; line which could have connected Rowsley to the Dore and Chinley line through the Derwent Valley past Chatsworth House. This has now passed to a Preservation Society where they are holding a gala event in celebration of 40 years since the last BR trains ran on the line, and 25 years since preservation began. An intensive service will run using both steam and diesel locos as well as a visit from Thomas.

NEVERWHERE OO Gauge Club Layout

This is our main running club layout and is an `alternative’ concept in modelling for a group of club modellers with diverse interests. The design is a double track oval, 22 feet long by 4 feet wide consisting of curved track work on the front with storage loops at the rear. This allows viewers to imagine themselves in a field watching trains pass through the landscape. The layout is fully scenic, with no structures or signals to fix a location or date. This allows change from 70’s diesel scene to LMS in its heyday, as well as American and Continental stock. This is the last exhibition for this layout – its replacement is under construction in the Clubrooms.

ZELL HO Gauge John Huddlestone

The tram station in the centre of the town of Zell in Germany consists of three platforms with an interchange facility to the trolley bus system. The town centre has a working fountain, bandstand with music, market area, shops and the tram depot. Stock dates from 1925 to 1970 and includes stock from Chemnitz. Overhead wiring is by Sommerfeldt and the layout operates semi automatically with working lights and signals.

ASHBURY 16mm Scale Vic Evans

Originally a small layout built just to run one freelance scratch built loco, more rolling stock has followed together with a number of scenic features so that the layout now uses three boards to include a water mill (powered by a small motor and gearbox), goods facilities and a loco servicing area. A lot of the layout has been scratch built or made from kits – in this scale you can't get much ready to run 'off the shelf'!

LONE STAR DISPLAY OOO Gauge Exhibited in memory of John Ratcliffe

This display is a build it yourself push along layout using one piece metal tracks from Lonestar OOO and allows our younger visitors the opportunity to design and build a layout. Lonestar also produced electric trains and was at the start of the developments of what we now know as N Gauge

BYGONE MODEL RAILWAYS O Gauge Malcolm Hughes

This year’s historical display from Malcolm is Hornby Clockwork O Gauge manufactured by the Meccano Company at Binns Road, Liverpool between the 1920s and 1962. For many people this was their first train set.

THOMAS OO Gauge Club Layout

Thomas and Friends make a welcome return to our show and it is hard to believe that this is the oldest layout we have in the Club as it was built many years ago when the TV series was just starting. This was long before Hornby produced the well known models that many youngsters have at home.
