westonman
Hi everyone I have 2 Hornby 2-6-0 County class locos that are loco driven by a 3 pole ringfield motor. My question is does anyone know if a 5 pole armature will fit the 3 pole motor. cheers Bob
Silver Sidelines
Hello Bob, I hadn't thought of that suggestion. I used an Airfix tender drive when the gear wheel on the drive axle split. It makes a very smooth running engine compared to the old Dapol/Hornby Ringfield design. The engine features in a YouTube video:
westonman
Hi Longsheds What a lovely big layout you have there. I have an Airfix Castle tender driven but i find that the tender wobbles quite a bit probably due to the traction tyres. cheers Bob
naugytrax
I wonder where you would get a 5-pole armature for this motor? The Ringfield motors used in the ex-Dapol County and Castle were quite different from the ones in the Hornby tender-drive steam locos and the Bo-Bo diesels. I'd be surprised if a 5-pole armature made for the latter type of motor would fit the former type. The magnet in the Dapol-type Ringfield has an interior diameter of 19 mm, whereas the normal Hornby Ringfield motor measures about 22.5 mm inside the magnet. Certainly nice clean traction tyres are important and making sure that the bottom keeper plate is screwed tight. Sometimes it is a case of swapping bits around, some wheels run more true than others. westonman
Thanks Naugytrax That answers my question,3 and 5 pole have different diameters so a 5 pole would not fit. cheers Bob
