Roxey Mouldings (Omega) A1X

Recommended Posts

Hi George,

I have built two Roxey Terriers and I can thoroughly recommend the kit. It is simple to build and goes together well. There was some work to do on the smokebox shape and I replaced the bolt heads on the side tanks with brass rod. Other than that it was straightforward. I used glue to put them together as I haven't yet attempted low melt solder. Here are some pics of the build.

Both of the ones I have built now reside in North Wales. Hope this helps.

Cheers for now, Ian.

l can do brass, but have never had a go at white metal, l had a Kays kit many years ago and it was awful, has anything changes ?

The quality of the castings IMO has improved.

If you can do brass etched kits then you can do white metal.Glue is IMO the worst thing to use in metal kit building though I have seen some good results.

The important thing about white metal soldering is to have a suitable iron (if scared of melting then probably a temperature controlled unit) do not give up power for temperature as the big lump of whitemetal is a great heat sink. Use 70'C low melt solder and plenty of a good flux. low melt solder does not flow as well as normal solder.

As always the most essential thing is to keep everything clean.
