Loksound V4 - Decoder failure

Hmmm my 37 417 has disgraced itself - it's failed

 

Was running around for 20 mins or so, then sitting idling away to itself, pressed F1 to shut it down, got about half way thru the shut-down sequence and there was a loud "POP" followed by silence. Now no sound no movement - nothing apart from the unmistakable smell of burnt "something" ? Quickly popped the body off - first time since I got it, the decoder has well and truly blown - one of the oblong orange boxes on the decoder circuit board is black/exploded wide open The question is what caused this ? a fault on the main circuit board - nothing to see there at all, perhaps a faulty batch of V4 decoders ?

 

 

This is one of the times ones glad the loco was purchased directly from a shop, who have already agreed to replace it, and refund the return postage cost.
