mikeh
I wonder if any Industrially minded members that have copies of old IRS Industrail Railway Record mags would mind looking up a couple of refrences for me? A company called Matthews & Wood feature in the published IRS Record Index in Vol 6 No. 63 page 160 and Vol 7 No. 75 page 181 I would like to know if this is the Matthews & Wood of Tipton, Staffs and if so what do the articles say? Any help much appreciated Regards Mike
PGH
Mike, Vol 6 p160 refers to a loco offered for sale by Matthews & Wood, a Newport, Mon, firm of Steel, Iron & Metal Merchants Vol 7 p181 refers to the same item so they are not your Matthews & Wood of Tipton. Hope this helps, Regards Philip
RMweb Premium Dava Posted March 27, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 27, 2013 I've just come across a real gem - the online archive of old 'Industrial Railway Records' with many fascinating articles available up to 1975 with some gaps. Lots of historic items! Happy reading... http://www.irsociety.co.uk/Archives/back_issues.htm

RMweb Premium Dava Posted March 28, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 28, 2013 Yes it's a gift that keeps giving! I came across the Derwent Valley article a couple of years ago but found the index by accident yesterday. So that was the evening gone! Pity the online content stops in the mid-70's.
