elgin10
I am trying to build some bogies for a 4mm scale locomotive model but I am difficulty in obtaining brass U channel. Does anyone know where I can get such channel - about 10 - 11mm wide and about 7-8mm deep. The wall thickness is not so important but about 1 mm would be fine. Many thanks, elgin
Allegheny1600
Hi there, A quick 'Google' soon found: http://www.metalsmith.co.uk/index.htm That should give you a good head start, hope it helps! Cheers, John E.
Crantock
Its probably easier, and cheaper, to assemble from flat sections soldered together. I may be misinterpreting but talk of channels to those dimensions smacks of trying to avoid soldering. If so its worth giving it a shot.
elgin10
Thanks gentlemen. I was indeed trying to avoid soldering the bogies simply to avoid drilling soldered pieces or worse, drilling the two side frames and THEN soldering them together. I have been experimenting with some ally channel from B and Q and so far it looks promising.Bushes fit nicely and I can glue the bogie side plates on but I would prefer brass if I can get it. I will try the web site that John E suggested. There must be others? elgin
elgin10
John E - you are a star!!! Metalsmith have exactly what I am looking for. Lets hope they have it in stock! In fact, it's worth promulgating this site on the RM Web - or have I been missing something all these years? elgin
