lyneux
Has anyone tried using this resin from Tomps: http://www.tomps.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=129{48}175 I notice that it has a viscosity of 40 CPS (lower than the 60 CPS of EasyFlo 60 that I am currently using) so might be even better than the EasyFlo for casting fine details? Yes I have. Got on with it pretty well, flows pretty well. Used this for the last couple of Resins purchases. And quick delivery as well. Pugsley
I haven't tried it yet, but will be once I've used up what I've got already! The most interesting but for me is the slow cure variant, which will allow vacuum casting, which should iprove casting quality. I just need to get my vacuum chamber constructed now! Pugsley
Please let us know how you get on, am considering making one in due course as well. Will do. Don't expect anything particularly elegant, but it should do the job, I'm planning on something along the same lines as this: http://www.housatoni.../VacChamber.htm

Pugsley
You can get the chamber itself from Toolstation/Screwfix or a builders merchant as well as the piping and fittings etc.. Plastic sheet should be obtainable from a glazing company, who may even cut it to size for you. Vacuum gauge available here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40MM-DRY-VACUUM-PRESSURE-GAUGE-0-1-BAR-BRASS-BOTTOM-ENTRY-1-8-BSP-DUAL-SCALE-/370577238560 (be quick though, only one left). Gasket material may be available from the large DIY sheds, it's the only part I haven't looked at in any great detail yet. HTH
jonhall
You could consider buying a vacuum desicator (random ebaysearch got the item below) and there are plastic versions that might also be easier to use. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ebaaeaafa I would urge care - high (or rather low) Vacuum is rather like high pressure - you do need to take care as there is a lot of energy there. Vacuum pumps are remarkably common on ebay, and if you are prepare to wait, and then travel to collect, there can be bargains out there, mine (a big Edwards) cost me £10 and puts the vacuum down very quickly indeed, but it weighs an incredible amount (my shed is in no danger of blowing away... ) and I had to drive down to Maidstone to collect it. In fact the adaptor I needed to couple the pump to the back of my vacuum oven was the most expensive part of the whole set up. I am not convinced that vacuum for casting is worth the effort, but I do vac-degass my moulds as it helps get the rubber into all the details.
