Blog- Rob Pulham's 7mm Blog - Coming along nicely - body assembled

I managed to make quite good progress with the coach body on Saturday PM and Sunday. After spending time making my mini drill powered cut off device (on my Q7 thread) I turned my attentions to this coach. I managed to get the body assembled after much pondering how to hold it square for soldering.

I ultimately soldered it with a cheap and cheerful version of a micro flame (I bought it off a market stall with a view to just using it for soldering solid DJH chassis frames together. It proved a godsend and it will now encourage me to invest in a better quality one - not that there is anything wrong with this one in terms of being able to solder with it. The only drawback is having to manually light it each time while trying to hold what I am soldering place (I started of on Saturday with a box of matches, swiftly upgrading to a lighter on Sunday when the shops opened). I am impressed with how little solder you can get away with.

I have also got the 4mm Comet Kit that I am doing in parallel to a similar state of construction. Which is body soldered together underframe cut to length solebars cut to length and inserts ready to solder in (the instructions say to stick these in with impact adhesive but I intend to solder them in using 180 degree solder so that hopefully they wont come loose while soldering the solebars to the underframe. On the 4mm kit I have got the solebars attached and the truss rod soldered into place.

Hopefully some progress photos tomorrow.
