Redbridge Sleeper Works

Bibby Line

Recommended Posts

We have raised this topic before and received a great deal of useful information from one of our Members.

The Winchester Railway Modellers are building a 4 mm model based on Redbridge that includes representations of the following key components (and assumes that parts of the works survived operational until the present time)

Station

Junction to the Romsey line with switched diamond crossing

Causeway

Parts of the Sleeper Works (creosote plant, foundry, gantry crane etc)

Log Pond

River estuary

etc etc

The period will be 1966-67 with the 3rd rail and later periods. Removeable signals will be provided for the semaphore and colour light periods.

Construction has commenced and the trackwork uses a mixture of "concrete" and wooden sleeper, flat bottom and bullhead rails. The lines closest to the viewing public use soldered scale chair construction.

We are particularly seeking any information of train workings into the sleeper works complex and any information would be greatly appreciated.

Photographs and updates on construction will be posted if of interest.

Thank you

Eddie
