bbishop
Well, Had a really good day especially as I acquired a complementary ticket. Spent exactly £2-25 with the trade, plus a bit of Lenz kit off At Marnock. However, I did find one thing extremely disconcerting. There were 19 layouts and four of them had changed ownership after the original builder had died. Horselunges and Ravens Rock had been exhibited by their previous owner, Orestone Quay was complete but never exhibited, whilst Cornwallis Yard has only part built. Two thoughts, well done to the present owners for preserving the memory of deceased modellers and secondly, what arrangements have RM Web members made for the future of their layouts? ChrisR
Thanks to Epsom & Ewell for their hospitality: having a bottle of water supplied was generous, drunk and appreciated, as it did take a while to get from one end of the exhibiton to the other while on an operating break! Good to see a good crowd of visitors on the Sunday too which must have helped on the finance front. I enjoyed looking at the other layouts as well although I didn't get round to all of them, those I did see were all very good: not a single one disappointed. Now to prepare for our show! Portchullin Tatty
Good to see a good crowd of visitors on the Sunday too which must have helped on the finance front. There was a queue of about 12 people to get in at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon. That has got to be a record! I enjoyed the show, hope everybody else did too? RMweb Premium Dave Searle Posted May 1, 2012 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 1, 2012 Hi, A big thank you to everyone who supported the show, as an exhibitor or trader as well as those who visited us. We had a record attendance (the highest for over 10 years) which included over 600 children, which bodes well for the future. We are not sure why the attendance was so high, but there were a number of contributing factors: Great layouts and traders. Several mentions on the local radio station. A colour photo and editorial article in the local paper (mentioning in bold print that children had free admission) The wet weather (causing parents to look for an indoor amusement for the children). Whilst we try to achieve 1 every year, 2-4 are variables we don't really have any control over (although we always supply the radio station and newspaper with the information). We have taken on board the comments about aisle width and the lighting in the upper hall. The darker part of the upper hall is the students' Disco area (hence the lighting). We are discussing with the NESCOT authorities the best way to improve this (if only on a temporary basis for the duration of the show). Again, thank you to all those who supported the show. Cheers, Dave
Kenton
The darker part of the upper hall is the students' Disco area (hence the lighting). We are discussing with the NESCOT authorities the best way to improve this (if only on a temporary basis for the duration of the show). Possibly the best option is to ensure that the stands here have the best lighting available. This year that was the case for all of the layouts sited there but not for the trade stands. In particular I found examining items on the Eileen's, Roxey and C&L stands very difficult. I wonder if traders pay as much attention to lighting as perhaps they should - after all we need to see the goodies on display to entice a purchase. It didn't stop me buying items on my list but it did stop me from any impulse buying. It is almost as if you could do with an additional room - especially if the numbers keep growing.
