halfwit
Way back in the early seventies I inherited some Hornby Acho and Jouef French outline stock when my grandfather died. (Kenneth Andrews, a member of the Poole model railway club at the time). The better items in his collection were; I think, sold and myself and one of my uncles inherited the rest. This stock has great sentimental value to me so I'm not interested in valuations, but I think that it might be interesting to post a couple of pics every now and again for the interest of others and to promote discussion (I know nothing of the history of the companies or of overseas railways). I should add that all of the stock was played with in my childhood, on the carpet on Hornby track in the time-honoured fashion! Ideally I'd like a big circuit of code 100 to run it all on and several display cabinets to keep it all in but until then it sits in the attic. First up a Jouef diesel 'B.B. 66.150', ref. 853.E. Apart from the dusty body, dirty wheels, and split traction tyres its quite a nice model with nicely moulded grills and louvres.
damndublo
I keep being tempted when I see Acho for sale. So far so good, have got away with not buying anything yet. Then along comes along an idiot with a Defender (if I'm not mistaken) which started this Series 3 owning idiot on why don't I, all over again. halfwit
...an idiot with a Defender (if I'm not mistaken)... You're not, its a 300TDi 110 CSW. Just for you... Hornby-Acho 638 locomotive BB 16.000 Not quite as nicely moulded as the last offering, and featuring a big body fixing screw in the roof, but still a pleasing model. Unlike the Jouef locos, which feature a centrally mounted motor powering both bogies, this one features a rather heavy duty motor bogie. Also note the seperate hand rails, a bit heavy but a nice touch anyway. The model is in reasonable condition except for a broken pin on the furthest pantograph. It cost £5-8-6 back in the day. Wonder how that compares now?
Il Grifone
About £100-120. Not surprisingly they didn't sell quite as well as expected.

Il Grifone
There's a Jouef 231K pacific in my layout thread. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/28222-dublo-layout/page__st__25 And detailing instructions here (in French I'm afraid). http://biscatrain.over-blog.com/article-22984676.html
Il Grifone
This appears to be identical to the Acho 'Wagon Tombereau' (it came with Dublo type couplings), but is marked 'S.M.C.F'. FRANCE underneath.
halfwit
Another one from my collection, a Jouef 'Autorail Panoramique'; Unfortunetely the buffers are damaged, one end has a broken coupling hook and one the other end the hook is missing entirely, and there's a few scuff marks on the paint. It has working lights on one end only, the end with the motor bogie. The body moulding is rather crude - and note that the lower end windows aren't transparent. As I type this its running on my rolling road, sounding like a coffee grinder!

Evanelpus
I'm rather a fan of French HO trains. This is a favorite of mine, Antal 231P from around 1955. Puts a Dublo Duchy to shame!
