Irishswissernie
In BR Days did the S&D 7F 2-8-0's work out of Green Park on the Mangotsfield line on freight workings to Gloucester or Bristol etc. I realise they would have worked to and from Derby for major maintenance etc but have been unable to find any reference to other than S&D line workings. Thanks, Ernie
buffalo
Yes, they were quite often used on workings from Bath to Westerleigh yard, Avonmouth and Stapleton Road gas works. There are also acounts of odd workings further north such as 53801 piloting the Pines as far as Birmingham on 26/09/1953 when it was on its way to Derby for overhaul. 53805 was seen on 28/12/1954 taking fish wagons from the west country to Birmingham, apparently not as part of a visit to the works. This information and a photo of 53809 at Kingswood Junction (returning from Avonmouth) in The Somerset & Dorset Files, No 1 which contains a useful article on the 7Fs. pH
There's a picture in an article on Gloucester in 'Steam Days' for March 2001 showing 53806 on the High Orchard branch to/from Gloucester Docks in May 1961. The caption implies that it wasn't common to see S&D 2-8-0s at Gloucester, but not unknown - quote "It was a 'bonus' day when you saw one of these Somerset & Dorset '7F' 2-8-0s working over the High Orchard Branch at Gloucester ...". Chris Nevard
Not a very welcoming message when one clicks this link - "You have been banned from this forum" It's probably the 'Western' bit in your name, being a SDJR 7F thread it might be blocking anything Great WESTERN? I'm only being silly, maybe trying clearing your cache/cookies and try again.

Whoops a bit late in on this one, but Barnwood occasionally did repairs( not warranting a trip all the way to Derby) on S&DJR locos, especially if Barrow Road had a backlog, or queue for the wheel-drop, workings around the docks was a common running in turn.
