LNERGE
I think the date on the chairs is 1943. They are certainly an odd shape.

stewartingram
Looks like Hitchin yard? From memory I believe Hitchin area pw trains visited Chesterton Junction pw yard in Cambridge ( I remember the 20's on those in the early 60's). Could they have originated there? CJ was quite an innovative place, and introduced long-welded rail delivered on bogie bolsters, loaded on curved track in the yard. On an official visit there in about 1965-ish the loading was demonstrated to me, and I was informed that the powers that be had said it was impossible to do, so they proved them wrong. Another thought is an M&GN involvement, as that line was very forward thinking with cast concrete components? Stewart
LNERGE
Stewart is correct and the sleepers are located in Hitchin Up Yard. My learned colleague who was working with me at the weekend suggested they were cast as specials for use at water troughs. I'm not convinced. I would expect some pre cast holes.
