Soundloco Posted April 18, 2012 Share Posted April 18, 2012 We understand Bachman advised retailers that new releases are now to be sold at the rrp for the first 8 weeks once recieved. If this is so what happens after the 8 weeks ? If traders are forced to sell items like this does it mean anyone pre-ordering anything or buying a new releases once it is in the shops will pay more than someone buying it on week 9 etc ? We wanted to pre-order the class 47-707 in revised NSE livery and looked around at prices and they come in around the £86 mark which is about 15% off the rrp if we pre order now. What price in week 9 etc. Surely if the price was to go down people will catch on and not pre order or buy anything before week 9 so this would make no sence to do. The pricing think has been happening since last summer but the other way round. eg :- the Hornby NSE VEP at £120 dcc ready and £130 fitted. Once the first lot went the prices went up and are still £139 ready, £158 fitted. B/man Desiro was £109 (£99 for un-branded for a while) when each one first arrived or pre order, then once again after first lot went the price went to £119 for the 350-101 and £124 for 350-238. The MPV was the same but not sure of figures. So now you have to think is it cheaper to pre-order or wait for a while ? Which will the big increase in prices means a lot of people will not be able to buy many models and either give up or just stay with ones already got. So what will happen to hobby then ? Surely in these hard times for all the wrong thing to do is put prices up like this as surely it could comwe back and bite them on the bum and they loose out. The box shifters have the space to store stuff for the 8 weeks or so, whereas smaller shops often don't have nearly the same luxury. Maybe time to start cancelling some of the pre-orders ...
