edcayton
I have just watched the last episode of Trevor McDonald's excellent series on the Mighty Mississippi, and he had a look at the enormous Rock Island armoury in Minneapolis. I wondered if this had anything to do with the name of the railroad. Have tried googling but come up with nothing. Any Ideas? Β Ed
trisonic
Personally I dunno but I doubt it. Try reposting your question in USA & Canadian Railroads may help though, Ed...

(Or, more correctly, is there a Rock Island armoury in Minneapolis?) According to Wikipedia (yes, I know!) there is a Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Island,_Illinois. And that is the 'Rock Island' in the title of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.
trisonic
There are armouries in just about every other municipality in the USA. Do you mind if I get this thread moved? Β Best, Pete.
