GC Jack
Latest project is the DJH Claughton. Any tips welcome but here is the "progress so far. The tender and the body went together quite well but there were problems with the join between the somokebox and the cab. Some gaps to fill. I hate making pick ups so I use the live tender and live chassis option. Tender wheels are fitted with Southern Pride shorting out bushes. I make up a plastic coupling to check for length first then make up one from double sided copper clad sheet suitably insulated as shown. I wanted to use a Comet fret for the front bogie but as the casting has raised springs there was not enough clearance so I had to use the bar provided. I have the Comet fret to be excellent and have retro-fitted it to my other kit built locos. I had real problems with the DJH gearbox which stripped a nylon gear wheel. My locos work hard for a living and I replaced it with a branch lines multi box, which, so far has never failed me.
GC Jack
I forgot to post up the Comet fret for the front bogie. As I said its a brilliant and simple piece of kit which makes a real difference.
GC Jack
Managed to get the first cylinder on. I find the DJH cross heads very flimsy and always replace them with Comets as shown. The slide bar is a one piece etch that has to be soldered on to the outside of the cylinder. It looked OK and very neat until I ran it and then the bottom slide fell off! There were other problems all round with the connecting rod. Will photo and post up later. Jack
