Redsrail
Hi all, Do any of you guys have any experience of changing the gears on one of these or similar please...? Its a Graham Farish class 25, Cat no. 8305. I'd really like to have this loco running again but i'm not sure if its best to send it somewhere or attempt the repair myself. Any feedback on this would be great. Many Thanks. Terry.
PLD
If you are confident dissassembling/reassembling the loco yourself, it's a relatively stright forward job. The plastic bogie frame moulding is just clipped over the central metal block of the bogie (beware of flying coupling springs they often try to escape at this point!). The old gears can then be removed (sometimes they drop stright out, others may need a bit of leverage with a small screwdriver of similar). Drop in the new gears and refit the bogie frame (again beware of losing the coupling springs). If you aren't confident Bob Russell @ BR Lines is your best option http://www.brlines.com Paul
Redsrail
Thank you for the reply. I spoke to Br Lines today and the guy said he can either repair it for me or provide me with new axles with gears on. Thanks. Terry
Dr Al
The original axles can have the gears replaced without needing to completely change the wheelsets - this is significantly cheaper. Cheers, Alan
