RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted June 21, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 21, 2012 Hi gang, Hattons delivered via postie set today, first looks really good. The coaches in set are TF(D) 41194 - disabled access toilet blank achieved by painting window - looks ok from viewing at a normal distance. Frames still on model and not that noticable. Interior detail reddy/brown seats white table. just need passengers. On non toilet side the lighter livery is missing across painted out window but a small brush will cure that. The other coach is TS(D) 42371 disabled toilet as above method. Good move as this means only standard TS needed to complete set - less catering car . Down side is roof unit for HST stock but both these ex loco hauled. The trailers have had some internal mods to get more seats with removal of one toilet per coach and opposite corner luggage as a result a small soild pane of glass inserted in previous tollet are moulded clear but with bar in place -easily removed. To confuse matters more the 5 sets area mix of HST vehicles and loco hauled conversions - all TCC( catering car) are ex loco stock and of course TGS are all HST parentage so you will always get two roof styles in every set. The First and Std disabled toliet coaches are from both lines and other trailers are also from both sources! Plus sets are not constant formation with vehicles often replaced, In short numbers and roof mouldings will possibly match and set formations will be a right dogs dinner!!!! What ever Dapol produce will have a a slight risk but gives after marketeers a good bit of choice. Vehicles as ever are light bar ready but interior standard - so you get a table in the disabled loo! The power cars 43285 dummy,43378 powered - good runner as normal with HST releases. livery is very well applied and around cab spot on for the XC part and front looks good. The shell used includes the small side window in luggage area but should be blank sided, as 43285, nee 43085 lost window before XC ownership and 43378- nee 43178 never fitted.. Use of EMT power car shells would have been a better match. All power cars have a variation on cooler group roof fans/grills but I guess this not economic for moudling.. colours look the part, the "warm brown" of the front looks spot on having seen them today at work ! I will pick out fire stop pulls and add rear Id panel on coach end. All in all this is a good looking impression of the real thing Thanks Dapol ! Chris Higgs
Down side is roof unit for HST stock but both these ex loco hauled. I haven't been paying much attention but do Dapol actually do both roof styles? All the ones I have seen have the single large vent. Chris
RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted June 22, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 22, 2012 Chris, Dapol due to cost considerations noted a long time ago the roof was a known compromise and only HST version done Mk3 local hauled and MK3b roof all varied. Not many folk get to see roof in real life so not seen as a problem Robert
Tom J
Is the XC livery to match the Voyagers, or the correct shade? I don't have one but IIR the Dapol XC 220 was too pale?
