Semaphore Signals - 4mm Scale (Mainly)

Recommended Posts

This may be a daft question but how do you fit the post mounted guides for the weigh bar to signal arm operating rod? Before or after painting the post? If before does that mean you only bend up the operating rod at afterwards?

Thanks for all your inspiring posts on this thread.

Hi Darwinian

Thanks for your question.

If post is brass, then I solder the guides before painting.

If the post is a 3D print, then I sometimes fix after painting, but there's no fixed rule.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

Hest bank had an interesting gantry signal with both a semaphore and a colour light are you building that one?

In a word - Yes.

However I won't be adding the colour light signal. I'll be leaving that for Mike Edge to do.

Awesome modelling there Steve. I'm in the throws of building some 7mm signals for a layout which hopefully will be fully working and lit similar to your signals. I've gleaned some info from this thread regarding signal transfers and "gaslight" LEDs, but can I ask what type of fibre do you use (single-mode or multi-mode) and where do you source it from please?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your kind comments.

I use 0.5mm dia Fibre purchased from All Components.

It's the 'end lighting' type, not the 'side lighting'.

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for the additional information, very much appreciated.

Regards,

Ian.
