Railfreight Cabside Logo: Class 56 and 58 are different!

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on respraying (partial) a couple of Hornby 56s into Railfreight grey and acquired some Replica 41065 transfers for this purpose. Now I've come to look at them next to a Hornby 56 I notice that they are a totally different design (Class 58 taller and squarer, Class 56 thinner and rounder).

A quick Flickr search showed me that the prototypes are completely different between the 56 and 58 (and even between 58s), e.g.

Class 56 Small Font (thinner):

Class 58 Large Font:

Class 58 Medium Font:

So, does anyone want a set of Replica transfers in exchange for some that are appropriate for a Class 56? For the record, I was planning on doing 56056 whose logos look similar to the Hornby printed ones: 56056 Bath Road 6.7.86 [RR86]

Anyone any idea about other locos that carried this livery and which type they carried?

You would have to check but i think only class 58 had the larger stickers.

Other classes with the smaller ones were 08, 20, 26, 31, 37, 47 and 56

Thanks Jim.

To be honest, I'm not sure which prototype the Replica ones match? They don't look right for the 56 (wrong proportions, wrong font size) or the 58 (altogether bigger logo, wrong proportions). The two shots of the 58 linked above show that they aren't even the same on a single class of loco over time (admittedly the second shot is during preservation though).

The Fox ones look better: http://www.fox-transfers.co.uk/products/fullsize/11qfNPZJcbkck.jpg

You and transfers don't have a great time - always finding faults :nono:

It's more the principle of modelling stuff to the prototype and not either a. making things up or b. copying errors by previous modellers/manufacturers.

In this case the Fox transfers look pretty good and will be acquired for the purpose. Back to the crafty computer paper for the ARC logos though I reckon.
