0.16.5 Quarry Layout

Tims stuff

Recommended Posts

Dear all, after a breif flutter with 009 I have decided to move up in scale, I am starting to build a 0.16.5 narrow gauge layout. I have built my baseboards and have begun scratchbuilding a small quary hunslet and a freelance locomotive. I am not familiar with this scale, I require help in locating manufactures of protoypical stock for my layout. Any advice or info would be greatfully appreciated. I will also post some pictures of my atempts at 0.16.5 over the next couple of weeks.

thanks

Tim

Hi Tim

First place to look is the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association as they have a range of publications including 'Getting Started' and ideas for Small Layouts. http://www.7mmnga.org.uk/

As you probably realise, nothing is available ready to run but one of the major kit manufacturers is Port Wynnstay Models who produce almost every Festiniog vehicle and a lot more as well - both prototypical and freelance in resin http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Port_Wynnstay/portwynnstay.htm

Smallbrook Studios have a range of loco conversions and rolling stock again in resin http://www.smallbrookstudio.com/page_1201118902437.html

Wrightlines are mostly white metal or etched kits. This range has been taken over by ABS - contact details in this thread on the old RMweb http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=40264

Peco have a small range of white metal or plastic kits

Chivers also have a range of plastic kits of both UK and American goods vehicles http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Chivers/Pages/chivers.htm

You don't mention where you are based - if in the East Midlands then please come to the 7mmNGA open day at Mickleover Community Centre (near Derby) details here http://www.ngtrains.com/Pages/Admin/Shows/tvg3.htm ignore the date - that's last year - we will be there on Saturday 16th :D

Another show where you will find all the manufacturers represented and a lot more is the 'Small and Delightful' show at Shepton Mallet on February 20th http://www.ngsw.org.uk/index.html

Hope that has given you enough to get started!!!

Good Luck

Mike

Thanks for replying, I have checked out all the web pages and have quite a large shopping list. A couple of wagons will start the ball rolling, and then I will lay some track. Meanwhile the christmas break should produce two locomotives. I think I will stick to ready to run chassis until I have the skills to build some of the wonderful kits that are available.

I checked out the club and think its wise to join and see what shows are close to me,

Best

Tim

certain items of Bachmann On30 range could be used with modification, I have one of the Davonport shunters which I have taken apart this evening the US style cab is seperate and making it look 'more British industrial' is certainly a possibility.

-alot depends how far down the 'freelance' road you want to go, or whether you want to stick with particular stock from a particular railway?

I checked out Steve Bennett's site, some nice stuff but I think I am going to model particular stock. I am building a freelance locomotive just to get the ball rolling but I have in mind some quarry hunslets and perhaps some festiniog railway stock
