DDolfelin
He has enquired: Not being a train collector I was hoping that someone might be able to help me identify this coach Attached is a photograph of a tinplate coach found in a store shed in a rather poor state. It is Gauge 1 (45mm gauge) and I think it is made by Bassett Lowke. The sole bar is printed with: 64/1 1921 Any information would be helpful.

gordon s
Had a dig in my Pat Hammond book (5th edition) and it doesn't list a 64/1 although that series of coaches were made by Bing and sold through BL in 1921. That series mentions all the other regions but not Southern. Either it's not in Pat's book or it could indeed be a rarity. Prices are pitched at £170-£240 depending on condition. Might be worth dropping Pat and email with a pic and ask his opinion. There are two SR coaches listed from 1924 but they are 66 and 67 stock numbers.
