george stein
Am I correct that the three listed locomotives were all right-hand drive? (need to know for proper placing of engine crew) Thanks.

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted September 22, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2012 Is there an easy to follow rule on GWR LHD or RHD? The GWR was basically a right hand drive railway although it might have acquired the occasional LHD loco through takeovers etc.
RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted September 22, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 22, 2012 Thanks Mike. Another job for when I get home - rework my engine crews - the Hornby ones are all modelled for LHD,
Coach bogie
Even LNER A1's that operated on the GWR in the 1920's were right hand drive. They were not converted to left hand drive until much later. As for 4mm crew, I recommend checking out Airfix RAF and USAF figures as for approx £4 you get a large number of figures, peaked hats in different positions ideal for loco crew. RMweb Premium M.I.B Posted September 30, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2012 Thanks Mike. I bet the RAF set still has the men in flying hats, with "sit -on" parachutes in sprinting poses. I could always carve the 'chutes off and have lots of passengers all sprinting along platforms.............
Johng
All the ones listed are RHD, as was GWR practice, even the backheads and the controls would have shared a common layout. Hence the WR dislike for the BR Standards, all of which are LHD. Even absorbed engine were converted, some strangely - Welshpool Beyer's, Countess and Earl where 'westernised' RHD with the reverser on the left, leaving the fireman 'notching up' as required on instruction from the driver.
