Two recent events in Brisbane

Hi everyone, first post from me for nearly two months! :O

Here are a few pics from two recent events I went to, mentioned in the topic sub-heading.

The first one, Modelling the Railways of Queensland Convention. Held on Saturday the 4th of August, this was the tenth annual convention which is on every two years. There was also an optional tour of local club and home layouts on Sunday 5th, but I was unable to attend this due to other commitments.

This event required 'delegates' to pre-book to ensure a spot and also to let the organisers know how many convention packs to make. The day was essentialy a number of modelling related presentations either specifically focused on Queensland, or on more general subjects (one was on wiring). There were also a number of displays and Queensland related retailers.

At the end of the day, everyone was allowed to keep their convention pack which contained all of the presenters notes as well as reference list of Queensland articles in various publications and other modelling goodies.

Broxburn Sidings

Taken from the convention booklet: is based on QR themes and practices, although it lays no claim to be representative of any particular location, nor is the rollingstock modelled on specific QR vehicles. The layout aims to capture the spirit of Queensland's railway scene utilising readily available commercial models that have been cosmetically modified to capture the ethos of Queensland operations.

S Scale Diorama.

S Scale is favoured by some Queensland modellers because 16.5mm gauge track conveniently represents Queensland's narrow 1067mm gauge in this scale.

The second event was the first ever Redlands Model Railway Show, held on the weekend of the 15th and 16th of September. Many of the layouts appeared at the main Brisbane show in May but there were a number that I hadn't seen before.

Sorry about the quality of some of the pics, I think some of the cameras settings had been experimented with since I last used it.

Some nice photos there, Matt and David. Thanks for posting.

That Rosevale layout looks interesting. The hotel reminds me of the one at Redbank. I also remember those 1900 railmotors, having ridden fairly regularly on both of them - probably the smoothest riding vehicles on the whole of QR. The last ime I saw one it was shunting around the sidings at Redbank, coincidentally.
