Hornby Class 50 with DCC Sound

Just to make everyone aware, it seems that Hornby have adopted 21Pin sockets on the DCC Sound fitted Class 50s, not a 8Pin as per the DCC Ready models.

I am assuming this is going to be standard on the Sound Fitted locos! Thank god Hornby are not going down the Bachmann road of Hardwiring Sound decoders in there locomotives, as getting them 'Reblown' to Legomanbiffo standards is much easier with a plug and a spare £15.00.

Both Hornby and Bachmann use the 21-pin decoders for their sound-fitted locomotives - Bachmann also use 21-pin decoders for the non-sound fitted variants on many of the newer models. Indeed, they go one step better and use the same PCB in many of the diesels, so adding a sound decoder is easy (just plug in) and solder or clip the speaker wires to the marked points on the PCB.

I am not aware of any Bachmann sound locos that are hard-wired from the factory. I have several class 24/37/47 models sound-fitted from the factory and all used standard ESU 21-pin decoders.
