These Comet models coach sides have been on the 'to do' shelf ever since friend Ian Willets gave them to me, anyway as it's hol's time a start was made yesterday afternoon.

Everyone familiar with etched Gresley coaches will know the top half of each side has to be soldered to the bottom half in order to reproduce the double-relief beading. Also the luggage end is narrower. Ian had done this for me so I drilled out holes for the various door handles and made a template for the door handles so they would be identical when bent. After they were soldered in place the back of the sides were ground smooth.

The roof is pressed aluminium (Phoenix/BSL) and required a little "working" with pliers and a file, although it is not really as bad as it might look.

These are some of the parts laid out. Some of my own etchings can be seen including 60ft solebars on 22thou brass and a 47ft LMS floor/end etch that I lengthened to suit the Gresley 60ft body.
